Tarzana

Tarzana Real Estate

Tarzana is one of the more upscale residential neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley. It’s the place where young and upcoming celebrities like Iggy Azalea and Selena Gomez buy hideaways when they get tired of LA’s hullaballoo.

Nestled on the landlocked side of the Santa Monica Mountains, this community offers beautiful landscapes dotted with hiking and equestrian trails and breathtaking mountain views as well as easy access to amenities such as shops, restaurants and the Providence Tarzana Medical Center. The area was once a ranch owned by the writer Edgar Rice Burroughs who named it after Tarzan, the hero of his most popular cycle of novels.

Some of the Finest Homes in Los Angeles

Houses in Tarzana range from palatial, multi-bedroom estates on the outskirts of Topanga State Park to cozier one- and two-bedroom condos in the vicinity of Ventura Boulevard. Most of the neighborhood’s housing stock was built between 1950 and 1980. In 2015, the average price of homes for sale in this neighborhood was $1,250,000 while the average price of a condo or attached townhouse was $780,000.

Public schools in this area rank high in test results in comparison to other Los Angeles County schools, and there are also a number of private elementary and secondary schools.

The Melody Acres area borders Topanga State Park, which is one of the jewels of California’s state park system with over 36 miles of trails. This is where the grander residences are located. The lots are large here, and there are plenty of trees. Melody Acres also has two country clubs: Braemar and El Caballero.

Abundant Shopping and Dining

As you move closer to Ventura Boulevard, you’ll find a more typically LA-style blend of smaller homes, rental properties and thriving businesses, including a Whole Foods Market. This area has its own mall, the Tarzana Square Shopping Center, with more than 40 restaurants, 40 medical and dental practitioners, and a range of retail shops and service providers.
